PadSplit Member FAQ

PadSplit is the best and most affordable way to find a place to live! For one low weekly price, Members get a private room with furniture, utilities, internet and laundry usage. There’s no minimum credit score needed to apply, and Members don’t have to sign long-term leases. We make it easy to find an affordable place to live without breaking the bank.

Living in a PadSplit is different from traditional rentals. Members only pay one bill every week (or sometimes every two weeks), and it covers a private furnished room, all utilities, and free credit reporting. To be approved, you don’t need a minimum credit score, and you won’t have to pay a big security deposit. On average, Members save $420 a month while living in a PadSplit, allowing Members to purchase a car, and pay off their credit cards.

PadSplit Members can save hundreds of dollars compared with traditional rentals. When you live in a PadSplit, you pay one bill every week (or sometimes every two weeks) which covers your rent, utilities, and free perks like credit reporting and telehealth services. Applying to become a PadSplit Member is easy! We require an application fee, income verification, and personally identifying information that is used for screening criteria. You will need to meet our Approval Criteria in order to be granted Membership. Once you're approved, you can browse and book an available room on the website.

Great news! There is no minimum credit score required to live in a PadSplit. When you apply to become a Member, we may review your credit history. However, your credit history is not a factor in the approval process.

We’re looking for kind, independent, responsible and respectful Members who are open to living in a shared community. Members must be at least 18 years old and pass background screening. We require Members to show proof of income or provide Membership dues up front. Finally, we require every Member to agree to our Member Agreement, which helps promote a positive and safe co-living experience. Learn more about our Approval Criteria.

Applicants who have one eviction on their record in the last 7 years can be approved, but applicants with more than one eviction will be rejected. Learn more about our Approval Criteria.

Your income will be verified as part of PadSplit's application process. Applicants may choose to have their income verified in one of two ways:

Yes, you can still apply and be accepted to PadSplit! Submitting documentation for acceptance is easy and outlined here.

Because we value the privacy of our Members, you are not allowed to tour the physical home before your move-in date. That’s why we have 3D tours of almost every property; you can get a tour without having to go anywhere! Once you are approved as a Member, you can view cross-streets for specific homes and see nearby attractions such as public transit, grocery stores, and gas stations. Additionally, your first room transfer is always free if this is your first PadSplit home.

Yes! You can filter by bathroom type on the property search page. Bathroom type is also listed in the room description as either shared or private. Please note, PadSplit has a limited availability of rooms with private bathrooms, and they are booked quickly.

PadSplit requires a 12-week minimum stay, with a penalty charged for moving out early. You can transfer to another PadSplit property at any time with no penalty. You’re entitled to one free transfer to another PadSplit property during your stay, where the move-in fee is waived. After your initial commitment, you’ll automatically transition to a week-to-week commitment. A credit or debit card must be kept on file. PadSplit is committed to adhering to the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA"). While most PadSplits are not currently handicap accessible, PadSplit will pass any requests for structural accommodations filed under the ADA to Hosts. In addition, PadSplit will consider requests that are consistent with the guidance under the ADA for booking assistance, emotional support and service animals and other non-structural accommodations.

PadSplit aims to make booking easy, transparent and affordable. There are three payments that are required in order to book a room:

Your weekly payment covers utilities like electricity, water, heating, and waste management, and wireless internet at no cost to you. All PadSplit homes come equipped with wireless internet at no extra cost to you. At many homes, there is free on-site parking available. As a Member, you’ll also have access to free 24/7 telemedicine services and credit reporting.

Most PadSplit homes come with a variety of places to park, including a driveway, a carport or street spots. Please note that there are no assigned parking spots. Occasionally, a Host may restrict vehicles if the maximum number of vehicles at a property is reached. If a PadSplit is restricting vehicles, it will be visible in a room's listing before booking. If the room you book allows you to bring a vehicle, you are only allowed to bring one vehicle and you must follow our parking rules. Violations are subject to our Three Keys Policy and/or towing. Yes. To keep your housing affordable, PadSplit homes are shared by approved Members. All Members must pass background screening before moving into a PadSplit, and you can learn more about potential PadMates from their Roommate Profiles on the property listing pages.

In most PadSplits, the Members of the home are responsible for cleaning and purchasing cleaning supplies. Talk to your housemates about a cleaning schedule and how best to share this responsibility and cost. What does a clean home mean?

One of the perks of PadSplit is that you can choose to pay rent weekly or every two weeks. You can select the day of the week that works best for you, and many Members choose their payday! Your payment schedule is selected during the booking process. You can change your payment schedule by calling Member Support, though some rules will apply.

Both PadSplit and our Hosts are committed to providing affordable housing for Members, however sometimes rate increases are necessary for a Host to continue operations. Hosts must adhere to the following set of rules when raising room rates:

To make a payment, log into your Member Dashboard and click on the "Finances" tab. Click the "Pay Now" button and fill in your payment information. Click the "Submit Payment" button to finish. You can also pay your dues through the PadSplit Member app. We recommend turning on autopay so you never miss a payment. If you signed a member agreement that includes a minimum commitment of at least 31 days, PadSplit requires a credit or debit card on file for your weekly dues. Prepaid cards will not be accepted.
