PadSplit’s mission is to solve the affordable housing crisis one room at a time. We use housing as a vehicle to create holistic affordability and financial independence for the millions of Americans most in need. This is a series on the people that we are serving.

If you could give your parents their dream, would you try?

“My mom had this plan growing up where she would open her own restaurant. But she never got the chance to do it because after she got married to my dad (she’s my step-mom), she had three kids back to back, which was never in the plan.”

Creating this establishment for her mother is her goal. By becoming a PadSplit member, Onyx has been able to reduce her living costs and use the saved funds to build her credit — a common practice within the PS community. She hopes to use her credit and savings to open the restaurant her mom never had the chance to.

“I want to open that up for her. Have her run the kitchen, while I run the bar — since I do the front of the house when it comes to the hospitality industry.”
