One of the best things about living in Atlanta is its growth. Nearly every area of the city is being revitalized. It can be hard to keep up, but we’ve searched high and low to find its up-and-coming neighborhood gems.
So, move over, Buckhead! See you later, Decatur! There’s a cluster of Atlanta’s southern and western neighborhoods that are quickly becoming the most interesting places to live, work, and visit.
5 of the best up-and-coming neighborhoods in Atlanta
West End
West End is a historic neighborhood with access to all Atlanta has to offer. This neighborhood boasts a MARTA stop, proximity to I-20, and plentiful bike lanes, giving residents many different ways to get around. Residents can use this transportation network to visit West End highlights like the Beltline Westside Trail and Wild Heaven brewery. And West End is just getting started. The redevelopment of the West End Mall will soon add new affordable housing, retail, and office space in this neighborhood.
Summerhill
Down by the old Turner Field, the Summerhill neighborhood is currently under construction as plans to revitalize the area’s commercial streets take shape. While still a work in progress, Georgia Avenue is quickly becoming a vibrant and walkable stretch of delicious eateries. Whether you grab a light bite at Little Tart Bakeshop or a heartier meal at Woods Chapel BBQ, Summerhill will deliver top-notch local culinary talent.
Downtown
Do you think Downtown is just for tourists and business travelers? Think again! In recent years, Downtown has built some great destinations with locals in mind. Make sure to visit the new National Center for Civil and Human Rights, a museum dedicated to documenting the fundamental rights of all human beings. Or, spend the day at Switchyards Downtown Club, a coworking and event space built specifically for local entrepreneurs.
Bankhead
Just west of Georgia Tech, the Bankhead neighborhood is becoming a gateway to the outdoors. Already home to Maddox Park, residents of Bankhead will soon be able to enjoy a section of the Beltline Westside Trail and the new 280-acre Westside Park. When completed, Westside Park will be Atlanta’s largest man-made greenspace, outranking even Piedmont Park in size.
Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh area of Atlanta is smack-dab in the middle of it all. Adjacent to the West End, Atlanta University Center, Summer Hill, Castleberry Hill Arts District and even Zoo Atlanta, living in Pittsburgh puts you just a stone’s throw away from a multitude of cultural experiences. A new development, Pittsburgh Yards, aims to enhance this vibrant atmosphere even further. When completed, Pittsburgh Yards will be a center for entrepreneurship, artistic development, and small business growth.
