At PadSplit, the security of our members is always a top priority for all 14,000 rooms on our marketplace. Since 2017, we’ve developed screening processes, procedures, and dispute-resolution mechanisms that significantly minimize risks.

While issues may occasionally arise, our strategic approach allows us to scale effectively to provide more affordable housing rooms while maintaining a strong track record of safety.

Robust policies and procedures

We take safety and security seriously, dedicating extensive effort to preemptively address minor issues before they escalate. Our commitment to safety has yielded excellent results, with very few instances of safety concerns. Practically speaking, we’ve implemented all possible measures to create a secure living environment for our residents.

Enhanced security measures

Our security protocols include mandatory locks on all exterior doors and individual bedroom doors, with codes that are changed each time a resident moves out. We also regularly update the codes for exterior entry and exit points. If a safety issue arises or a host requests a code change, it can be easily managed through our dashboard.

With our hosts, we highly recommend installing fire stops above the stove, and fire extinguishers are mandatory in the kitchen.

Safety and security at PadSplit are a collaborative effort between us, our hosts, and our members. Each party shares a responsibility to ensure a secure living environment. Hosts play a crucial role in maintaining secure living arrangements, just as they would in traditional rental housing settings.

Our customer service team is trained to intake and escalate safety and security issues promptly. We’ve developed processes to address concerns before they escalate, and our member score system helps us identify and terminate members who pose safety risks. 

We actively collect safety data and have a legal team ready to address any issues. Our history proves that our processes are effective, with a remarkably low incident rate, given the number of members and stays we handle.
